The Kaddatz Galleries announces two new exhibitions – Naomi RaMona Schliesman: Beautiful CHAOS and C. Beck: Beginnings. A joint reception for these exhibition openings will take place on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 5-7PM. This event is free and open to the public. Naomi RaMona Schliesman: Beautiful CHAOS will be on view in the Main Gallery January 12 - February 25, 2023. This exhibition is a compilation of 2D and 3D sculptural artworks that speak to society’s contemporary struggle of navigating “new normals” amidst the systemic failures of zeitgeist institutions; and how beauty can become the catalyst for joy, collective healing, and forming generative solutions for the future. Naomi RaMona Schliesman is an award-winning interdisciplinary artist with more than 20 years of experience. She received her BFA with an emphasis in sculpture from Minnesota State University Moorhead (2004), and an MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2009). Her work has been exhibited nationally in New York, Chicago, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Pittsburgh, Brooklyn, Seattle, and across the Midwest. Schliesman has been awarded fellowships from Ragdale Foundation and Kimmel Hardening Nelson Center for the Arts. Throughout 2023, the Kaddatz Galleries is celebrating the rich visual legacy of Charles Beck, Fergus Falls’ acclaimed painter and woodcut printmaker, with a series of exhibitions, classes and printmaking workshops, and special events. In this first exhibition of the Year of Beck commemoration, C. Beck: Beginnings, a wide range of sketches, drawings, paintings, and portraits from Beck’s earliest years as an artist are featured. This work gives insight into his creative development. Included are his first painting; envelopes from his letters home, which he adorned with cartoons depicting his life in the service; sketches of Otter Tail County landscapes and farmsteads; a cityscape watercolor and portraits of the Mexican people he befriended in early visits to the country; figure drawings from his time in graduate school; early abstract paintings; little-known leatherwork pieces; as well as development sketches and an early edition of his first woodcut block print, the noteworthy Holy Family. Pieces in the exhibition have been drawn from the Beck family and close friends’ personal collections, as well as M State's and Kaddatz Galleries' permanent collections. C. Beck: Beginnings is on view in Studio K January 12 - April 1, 2023. For a complete list of A Year of Beck exhibitions and events, please visit www.kaddatzgalleries.org.
