Lake Alice Cyclone Tour - OTCHS

Take a guided tour around Lake Alice. Learn about the history of the Lake and the homes that surround it as well as the destruction that took place on June 22, 1919 when a cyclone destroyed two-thirds of Fergus Falls. Fee: $6.00 per person. The June 22, 1919 Fergus Falls tornado destroyed or damaged nearly two-thirds of the community, leaving over fifty people dead and hundreds injured. Its affects are still felt today through an altered streetscape and legendary stories that are part of our lore. To commemorate this event, OTCHS is sponsoring the Lake Alice Cyclone Tour on Wednesday, June 22, at 7 p.m. The tour begins at St. James Episcopal Church. Lake Alice was one of the hardest hit areas of town. Dozens of homes were flattened, leaving the lake so filled with debris it looked as though you could walk across it. The Lake Alice Cyclone Tour reflects the effects of the storm. Turn of the century homes were replaced by 1920s bungalow style houses. Older homes that survived were either the most solidly built or the luckiest.
