Ignite Community Leadership

The Chamber's Ignite Community Leadership program is designed to bring together emerging and existing leaders to explore leadership within themselves and for their community.

Session # 8 Organizational Leadership: Communication and Conflict
Instructor: Dana Haagenson

Non-Profit Speed Networking: Ignite Class of 2026
Community Connection Session
This fast-paced event is designed to spark meaningful signatures between the Ignite Community Leadership participants and local mission-driven organizations. Success relies on concise storytelling and active listening.
Logistics & Set-Up

  • Location: YMCA of the Northern Sky Community Room (Enter near the hallway/bathrooms).
  • Station Prep: Look for your organization’s table tent. Each table is shared by two non-profits.
  • Materials: Please bring 14 sets of materials (business cards, brochures, or small SWAG). Tabletop signage or a floor banner is welcome but keep the display simple and compact.
"Speed" Schedule
  • 11:15 AM: Kick-off & Introductions. We will start with a lightning round of introductions (Name, Organization, and Role) for both the Ignite class and the non-profit representatives.
  • Rotation: Each of the 14 students has a designated starting point.
  • Timer: Rounds last 4 minutes.
    • 30-Second Warning: A signal will chime to help you wrap up.
    • The Switch: We will announce the rotation.
  • Final Round: End time 12:15pm – THANK YOU!
Conversation Starters: Non-Profit Reps
Your goal: Gauge student interests, strengths, and potential for long-term board or committee engagement.
  • The Superpower: "As an emerging leader, what is one professional 'superpower' you’re looking to lend to a community project?"
  • The Motivation: "Outside of your professional role, what community issues are you most passionate about solving?"
  • The Style: "Do you prefer being 'boots on the ground' or working on high-level strategy and governance?"
  • The Perception: "Before today, what was your honest first impression of our organization?"
Tips for a Smooth Round:
  • The 30-Second Rule: Keep your personal bio to 30 seconds. This leaves 3.5 minutes for the "meat" of the conversation.
  • Mission & Impact: Focus on who you help and how you do it, rather than a long list of programs.
