Downtown Fergus Falls Mystery Tour

Shootings, scandals, illegal clubs and wanton women. The sordid history of a major city or that of a quiet prairie town? Discover the answer during the Otter Tail County Historical Society's Downtown Fergus Falls Mystery Tour on Thursday, June 7, beginning at 8:00 p.m. The tour begins in the lobby of the River Inn on Mill Street.
Well known for its abundant churches and well behaved citizens, Fergus Falls also had a dark side that has largely been kept quiet...until now. This twilight walk through the historic downtown explores some of the community's more colorful characters and notorious events. As the tour weaves through the streets, stories and people come to life such as the 1932 confrontation between Hamilton Denham and Bill Hatcher in what was described as "one of the most sensational shooting affrays in the history of the city."
The tour will examine stories and visit sites such as the painting of a nude woman discovered between the walls at the old city hall. Find out why the "Municipal Nude" caused such an uproar. The location of an infamous liquor operation and its well known owner will be revealed as well as the murder of one of Fergus Falls' most prominent citizens.
