A December USDA Fresh Box delivery will be arriving in Fergus Falls on Saturday, December 19. The delivery will include the same items as the October and November deliveries: fresh fruit, vegetables, dairy products, and pre-cooked meats. The boxes are free and open to anyone. It is anticipated that at least 1,200 boxes will be arriving in this delivery, as well.
The aim of the program is to connect surplus food with food banks and nonprofits that serve people in need, during this difficult time, while utilizing fresh and perishable food that would otherwise go to waste. This program has provided employment by awarding contracts to small and mid-size distributors to bring back furloughed workers to pack the boxes.
