A Behind the Scenes Look at What Makes Art Caldecott Medal-Worthy

Before children can read, they are enthralled by the pictures on the pages of books read to them by family and friends. The sole best artist of children’s books is awarded the Randolph Caldecott Medal each year. The Fergus Falls Public Library hosts former Caldecott Committee member, Gail Nordstrom, to lead a workshop on Saturday, February 17th. Nordstrom will share her experience and knowledge about what makes a picture book distinguished. If art is subjective, what are the criteria that make one picture book stand out among many submissions evaluated each year? During the workshop participants will get to apply their newly refined visual literacy skills to evaluate recent Caldecott Award books.

Attendees can earn 1.5 CEUs for the workshop on Saturday, February 17 from 10-11:30 a.m. Please register at www.bit.ly/caldecott24 .
